Two months ago, Team Airpaq decided to to donate the savings generated by the VAT reduction to disadvantaged children - you can read about our motives and what exactly the money is donated for here.
As most of you have probably already noticed, the VAT in Germany will be reduced by three percent from July 1 to December 31, 2020 to revive the economy. We are very happy about this initiative of the German government, but as a small start-up we are now facing some problems.
For one thing, we do not only sell our products through our own store and our own website, but also work together with many small owner-managed retailers who have their stores scattered all over Germany. The retail trade has suffered greatly from the temporary closure due to the corona virus and in some cases is still struggling with existence problems. For such small businesses, a reduction of the value-added tax means first of all a costly effort, because this conversion requires the change of all price tags, updating of the online stores etc. and it is questionable whether such a conversion is profitable for the limited time of six months.
On the other hand, we are a company that sells its products not only in Germany but also in other EU countries such as Austria, Switzerland, France and Spain, to which the reduction in VAT does not apply. To offer our products now exclusively in Germany would not be fair to our dealers and consumers in other countries.
Ultimately, however, we simply find that these three percent of the price can simply move much more elsewhere. That is why we at Airpaq have decided not to change our prices and to donate instead.
The first two months of the VAT reduction are now over, so we would like to present our results to you! With your help, we were able to support the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk, which cares for disadvantaged children living in poverty in Germany, with a total of 1,250 Euros. With this donation we are now not only helping to ensure individual help for children in need, but also to support institutions like children's homes where disadvantaged children can get a warm meal and play together. However, the Corona Pandemic currently represents a particularly difficult situation for children living in poverty: educational opportunities have been shifted to the digital realm in many places, but many children here are already at a severe disadvantage due to a lack of a laptop or even Internet access, and their right to education is restricted. With the help of our donation, we are helping the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk to eliminate these inequalities by purchasing computers and providing Internet access, and to continue to guarantee as many children as possible the chance of education.
Finally, we would like to say a big thank you, because this donation was only possible with your help!
